Equinix Expands AI-Ready Data Center Infrastructure in Chennai with $69M Investment

Global data center operator Equinix has launched its first AI-optimized facility in Chennai, marking a strategic expansion into southern India's burgeoning digital economy. The CN1 data center represents a $69 million initial investment, featuring 800 scalable cabinets designed for high-density AI workloads and liquid cooling capabilities.

Located in Siruseri's tech hub, the six-acre campus can expand to 4,250 cabinets, positioning Chennai as a critical node in Equinix's global network of 270+ data centers. The company has secured nuclear energy contracts to ensure uninterrupted power for its AI operations, addressing one of the sector's most pressing challenges.

This MOVE strengthens India's digital infrastructure at a pivotal moment, with Equinix already hosting 300+ companies including major telecom carriers and internet exchanges. The Chennai facility complements three existing Mumbai data centers, creating a more robust national network for enterprise and AI applications.
